I was brought up in the English cathedral music tradition, beginning my musical education as a chorister at Ripon Cathedral. That early experience gave me a lasting love of the organ and choral music.

I hold the Associateship of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO) and have many years’ experience as a church organist. My playing and teaching draw on a broad range of repertoire, with a particular interest in helping pianists and aspiring organists develop the distinctive skills needed to play the organ confidently and musically.

Alongside music, I have extensive experience in adult education through my career in medicine, including many years teaching and supporting doctors in training. I am also a qualified coach, and this shapes my approach to teaching.

My aim is that students leave lessons with greater confidence at the instrument, improved technical control, and a clearer understanding of how to practise effectively and independently. Over time, this leads to more secure playing, more expressive musical interpretation, and the ability to approach new repertoire with increasing confidence.

My lessons are supportive and purposeful. Whether you are approaching the organ for the first time, moving to the organ from the piano, returning after a break, or hoping to develop your playing to a higher level, I aim to help you make steady, measurable progress while deepening your enjoyment of the extraordinary instrument and repertoire of the organ.
